INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

Saint-Laurent-du-Var is at the heart of a transformative public-transport initiative: the upcoming Ligne 4 du tramway, which will connect Nice to Saint-Laurent-du-Var and Cagnes-sur-Mer via a 7.1 km route with 14 stations in total, 4 of which will serve Saint-Laurent-du-Var directly.

As of March 2025, work has already begun to create a new multimodal hub featuring a 285-space park-and-ride zone to ease congestion and cut around 4,500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year in the region.

Alongside transport improvements, significant urban redevelopment is underway. The major revamp of the Avenue du Général de Gaulle, a principal artery of the town, will modernise the city centre’s public spaces, improve pedestrian and bike-friendly mobility, re-green urban zones, and upgrade infrastructure for cleaner, more sustainable living.

HISTORY

Saint-Laurent-du-Var has origins dating back to antiquity, when settlers began to arrive in the area thanks to its sheltered coastline, fertile land, and strategic position along Mediterranean trade routes. For centuries, the town remained a small agricultural and fishing community, shaped by its proximity to the sea and the Var River, which provided both sustenance and connection to neighbouring settlements. The town began to transform in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as the French Riviera became a fashionable destination for tourism and leisure. The arrival of rail connections and later the growth of Nice and its airport accelerated Saint-Laurent’s development, turning it into a modern residential and commercial hub while still retaining its coastal charm. Today, Saint-Laurent-du-Var combines its heritage with rapid urban renewal, making it one of the most dynamic and desirable locations on the Côte d’Azur for residents and property buyers alike.
