As opposed to purpose-built resorts in the Three Valleys, Saint-Martin-de-Belleville has grown organically over the years, making it one of the most charming ski resorts in the French Alps. The authenticity of the village has been carefully preserved by the town hall which has put a strict PLU in place to restrict the amount of constructible land in Saint-Martin-de-Belleville. The village has largely remained untouched since the inception of electricity and running water in the 1950s, and thus provides a good look into the real Savoyard culture.
