Les Gets is one of the most popular ski resorts in France for various reasons. The first reason is the size of the ski domain. Les Gets is part of Les Portes Du Soleil ski domain which is a very large ski domain with more than 600 kilometres of ski runs across France and Switzerland.
Another reason why Les Gets is very popular is its proximity to the airport. The drive is between one hour and one hour and 15 minutes which means it is very convenient, especially for weekend trips when you want to come at the last minute.
Then, it is one of the rare resorts with a proper dual season. The summer here is very nice. “We are very proud to offer a very, very long summer season. We begin at the end of the month of May. Of course, during the summer, we have the opportunity to welcome all the families because Les Gets has a lake with a Wibit (water park inflatables). We have an 18-hole golf course and much more to discover.” (David Chabanal, Director, Les Gets Tourist Office). Most of the main lifts are open in Les Portes Du Soleil which allows you to do summer activities, like mountain biking, hiking and paragliding.
Compared to many ski resorts, Les Gets has been very preserved in terms of architecture, making properties for sale in Les Gets very attractive to investors and second home buyers. The village has grown around the historical centre preserving the local architecture, so that it is why in Les Gets you don’t see any big blocks, like ‘70s blocks with big flat roofs like you would find in purpose-built ski resorts.
The village is organised around a long main street with shops, restaurants and bars and everything you need, and then higher up, halfway up the mountain, you have two main areas. One is called, La Turche, which benefits from direct access to the slopes. The second one is called, Les Chavannes, with the same access to the slopes and ski lifts.
Les Gets is perfect for clients who are looking to buy a chalet or apartment for sale in a large, dual season ski domain which is very close to an airport.

There is a fantastic array of ski properties for sale in Les Gets. Those who want to be close to the heart of the action should consider looking for a property in the village centre as this will enable them to have the best selection of shops, restaurants and amenities on the doorstep. Ski apartments can be mainly found in the village centre, all of which are built in a beautiful chalet-style – no high-rise tower blocks here. Some ski apartments also come with excellent communal facilities such as Kinabalu which has a swimming pool, a spa and a concierge service.
As space is limited in the village centre, spacious chalets for sale in Les Gets tend to be located just outside of the centre in one of the resort’s charming slopeside neighbourhoods such as the Gibannaz area. It is in this calm neighbourhood where you’ll find the six-bedroom Gibannaz 3 which boasts ski-in ski-out access and offers panoramic views over the valley, Mont Chéry and the slopes.
Les Gets is constantly improving its offerings on and off the slopes to help it better compete with its fellow siblings in Les Portes du Soleil. For the 2019/20 ski season, Les Gets opened two new pistes, a dog sledging experience for children and Les Sources du Chéry, a chic wellness centre with a 1,000 sqm adults-only spa and fun children’s area.
Some €7m has been invested in improving the resort’s snowmaking capabilities and the new facilities have upped snow coverage from 35% to nearly 50% for the 2019/20 ski season. Once the project is complete, snow coverage will reach 75%.
An authentic and welcoming village, Les Gets is a true dual-season resort with access to one of the largest ski domains in the world and with a lively summer season. From golf and mountain biking to paragliding and watersports, there is something for the whole family to enjoy in the summer.
This not only makes owning a property in Les Gets an excellent lifestyle investment, but it also means that property owners have the opportunity to generate strong rental yields throughout the year.

Les Gets opened its first chair lift back in 1938 and welcomed the first Ecole du Ski Français soon after in 1940. Since the opening of the Mont Chery lift in 1954, the ski resort has steadily grown and now boasts 47 lifts.
However, the origin of the village stems back to the 12th century and before Les Gets evolved into the popular ski resort it is today, it was a dairy farm community. For a taste of what life was like back then head to La Fruitière des Perrières, a fromagerie with a restaurant which is more than 100 years old.
Part of the vast Portes du Soleil ski domain, Les Gets has 650km of groomed pistes on the doorstep and is conveniently located just over an hour’s drive from Geneva which makes it perfect for weekend visits or last-minute trips. Les Gets is a great destination for mixed ability groups as it has a diverse array of slopes with 38 green runs, 131 blue runs, 105 red runs and 32 black runs.
Novice skiers should check out the nursery runs near the village centre and the Mappys area in the Chavannes area which has four gentle runs with a snow cable and rope to help new skiers practise. There are also several ski and snowboarding schools where you can attend group lessons or one-to-one sessions. Seasoned skiers will enjoy the steep black runs of Mont Chéry and the Yeti mogul field.
Well-deserving of its Famille Montagne Plus label, Les Gets is a fantastic resort for families as it boasts plenty of activities to keep little ones amused such as the Grand Cry Territory, a fun themed ski area, and the Milka slope.
Les Gets offers plenty of activities away from the slopes too. In the village centre, you will find an outdoor ice rink, a cinema, a bowling alley as well as plenty of restaurants and a handful of bars. There are also several spas for unwinding and resting ski-weary legs including the new Les Sources du Chéry spa.
A true dual-season resort, Les Gets is very active in the summer months and a great destination for those seeking a sporty holiday surrounded by breathtaking Alpine scenery. In the summer, swap your skis for hiking boots and explore the many hiking and walking trails of Les Gets which range from the challenging Les Crêtes du Mont Chéry route to easier paths designed for families with young children.
For golf with a view, head to 18-hole Golf Les Gets on the Chavannes side of the village. Facing the Mont Blanc, each hole of this challenging course offers a different stunning vista.
Lac des Ecoles is a must-visit for families during the summer. Monitored by lifeguards this Alpine lake is perfect for swimming whilst the grassy banks are an ideal spot for sunbathing or picnicking. On the water, you will also find the action-packed Wibit park which comprises around 40 inflatable obstacles, including a giant slide. There is also an easier obstacle course designed specifically for children aged between five and eight.
Les Gets is a superb destination for mountain biking enthusiasts as it is home to the largest MTB park in Europe which comprises more than 128km of marked trails that cater to all abilities. Les Gets also hosts the MTB world cup finals and in 2022 the resort will host the DH and XCO Mountain Biking World Championships.
