Morzine is the biggest town in Les Portes du Soleil and is usually the most recognised in the region. With an altitude starting at 1,000m, 3,000 local year-round residents, perfectly maintained landscape, great access and close proximity to Geneva airport, Morzine is a popular choice for many.
The village was developed with the conscious decision to not simply be a winter ski town but to keep in mind the various opportunities that the area offers. Given the low altitude of the region, it was a very wise decision. During the summer, the ski lifts are very much active and bring hikers up the mountains, the trails are filled with cyclists and the lakes see a lot of swimmers. The winters are equally busy, as the village acts as a capital for the 650km of ski slopes of Les Portes du Soleil.
The restaurants are world class and varied in cuisine, and the shopping is abundant. The streets are easy to navigate and the town is generally great for families and is seeing an increase in après-ski activities and nightlife.
The village hosts a series of football matches as part of the French Mountain Villages Football Tournament, and has hosted the finishing of the Tour de France several times. The village has succeeded the rare feat of attracting both sport enthusiasts and lovers of the laid-back alpine lifestyle.
