A whole new market: Why we love Barcelona

16 June

2017 has been a year of change for Athena Advisers, but our biggest change so far this year is undoubtedly our launch into Barcelona's property market. We fell in love with this Mediterranean city and now after years of research and hard work we're finally ready to hand over our in-depth knowledge and a selection of hand-picked properties to you.

After the economic slump caused by the global financial crisis, Barcelona is on the rise again with property prices increasing year on year. This popular European hot spot is regaining its reputation as an international hub for business and tourism. However, cost of living still remains cheap in this city, meaning foreign investors are flocking to get a foot on the property ladder. On top of low prices and the rise in real estate, Barcelona has so much to offer: a fantastic quality of life with a warm climate and beach, fantastic air and sea connections to worldwide destinations, and an abundance of gourmet restaurants, bars, museums and galleries, not to mention the architectural wonders of Gaudi.

Spain also boasts a popular Golden Visa programme, allowing foreign investors to acquire European residency and free travel across Europe's Schengen area. Since its introduction in 2013, the Golden Visa programme has helped to attract a large number of buyers, with more and more investing every year.

Due to its geographical location between sea and mountains, new builds are hard to come by in Barcelona, thus renovated buildings are the popular choice for the development of modern and luxury housing. We've been hard at work with our partnered developers helping to create stunning renovated properties in three wonderfully different neighbourhoods: the Gothic Quarter, Poble Sec and Gracia.
