New lifts & other exciting attractions across The 3 Valleys16 juin
It may be the largest ski domain in the world, but doesn't mean it can't get better and better. Here are some of the latest additions to The 3 Valleys' slopes...
Settle a score with Méribel's parallel slalom challenge
If you find yourself in The 3 Valleys with a competitive itch that needs to be scratched, take on your friends and family in the Altiport parallel slalom. The slalom is filmed and timed from start to finish, which means your greatness can be etched in digital stone by sharing the video across various social networks. To find it take the Saulire Express 1 cable car and ski down following signs to the Altiport. The slalom is under the start of the Dent de Burgin chairlift.
100% of Meribel's chairlifts now upgraded
The last chairlift to be renovated across the various stations of Méribel has finally been upgraded. The 'Combes' chairlift has been replaced by a new, faster and more efficient six-seater 'detachable' chairlift (detachable chairlifts are those that slow down gently before you get on, some of which have moving carpets). This means that Méribel is now fully-equipped with fast, comfortable detachable chairlifts that have high capacities helping avoid the queues in busy periods.
Savoyard startup company makes Méribel Mottaret chairlifts safer
Méribel Mottaret is now the first resort to be fully-equipped with 'MS Bar technology'. This French innovation was developed by a Savoyard start-up and safely locks the safety rail, which is lowered and raised by skiers on charlift, greatly reducing the chances of anyone slipping of seats.
Méribel Mottaret improves its beginners areas
Two new learning areas are available in the resort. Entirely sheltered from other skiers the areas allow beginners to discover the pleasure of skiing in total safety. Two magic carpets (Ourson and Doron) and their easy slopes will be accessible for free from the centre of the resort.
Free luging in Méribel Mottaret
Two new luging runs are now available in the centre of the resort opposite the terraces of bars and restaurants. Protected from skiers and free the runs will be open all season and there will even be a couple of night luging sessions available from top of the new Combes chairlift.
Upgraded ski lifts
Les Menuires’ Bettex two-seater chairlift has been replaced by a new four-seater that whisks skiers to a higher altitude at the top of the ‘Brelin’ pistes above the resort.
Legendary summit now accessible for all
The legendary summit of La Masse is now accessible to all skiers of every level, thanks to the new blue piste ‘Le Bouquetin’. This new opening means both beginners and experts can ski across all the peaks in the Les Menuires-Saint Martin ski area.
Lots of new facilities for beginners
New beginners areas are being developed across the resort, firstly on ‘Les Montagnettes’ slope in the Croisette area with the ‘Forêt’ piste in the Masse-Bettex area to follow. A new magic carpet will also be installed for beginners at Le Pelvoux piste in the Croisette area. The project will be spread over several years.
Freestyle skiing for all levels
A new 7-hectare easy-to-ride area is available for anyone who wants to sample the thrills of Freestyle opposite the internationally renowned profession snow park. Specially adapted springboards will available so learners can practise jumps and shapes.
New ‘fun slope’ comes to Val Thorens
A new type of piste is coming to Val Thorens. 900m-long run with more than 50 fun obstacles including tunnels (with sound effects), bridges, spirals and raised turns it is dubbed to be ‘an adventure for all the senses’.
Courchevel grows its snow
The resort has added further precautionary snow making facilities this season with the installation of ten new snow machines in the Signal area in Courchevel-Moriond. This means that there will now be 2,189 machines covering almost 50% of Les 3 Vallées ski area.
Help ski patrol close the mountain with 'Last Tracks'
You can now (safely) be the last person to sail down the mountain. With 'Last Tracks' the Courchevel ski patrol are offering up the chance for people to get a taste of their roles and responsibilities. They will introduce you to their exciting profession - simulating an avalanche victim search, a demonstration by a dog master, closing down the mountain, all followed by a well-deserved mulled wine.
