LA ROSIÈRE DESTINATION GUIDE

ABOUT THE LOCATION

La Rosière, a family-friendly resort in the Haute Tarentaise Valley, is an undiscovered gem in the French Alps. Often overshadowed by its high-profile neighbors, La Rosière offers excellent skiing conditions and some of the most competitive property prices in a high-altitude resort.

With daily Eurostar service from London to nearby Bourg-Saint-Maurice and a convenient airport nearby, it's easily accessible. The resort boasts a strategic location on the Franco-Italian border, allowing visitors to ski both French and Italian slopes. With over 150km of pistes, suitable for all levels, La Rosière offers an extensive ski season from December to April.

Once the snow melts, visitors can enjoy the highest 9-hole golf course in Europe and a full range of outdoor activities.

INVESTMENT POTENTIAL

Ideally located on the Franco-Italian border, La Rosière is the gateway to Espace San Bernardo which links the Northern Alps with La Thuile in Italy’s Aosta Valley. An up-and-coming resort which is increasingly popular with international visitors, La Rosière has seen extensive developments over the past few years with the creation of 30km of new slopes plus two new ski lifts since 2018. Connected to the Eurostar service from London via nearby Bourg St Maurice, La Rosière’s real estate offers excellent value for money with strong upside value thanks to the resort’s altitude and an average snowfall of 6.4m every season.

ADVISERS’ OPINION

In addition to offering more competitive property prices than other high-altitude resorts in the French Alps, La Rosière’s guaranteed snowfall and lower skier density mean that you’ll enjoy fewer crowds and fresh powder on both sides of the border. Expect sunny, snow-sure skiing on the south-facing French side and bottomless powder days on the north-facing side of the Aosta valley in Italy.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

La Rosière is a charming ski resort located in the French Alps that has recently undergone several improvements and developments. One of the most significant upgrades was the construction of a new six-person chairlift that connects the resort to the nearby Italian ski area of La Thuile.

This has opened up over 160 km of interconnected slopes, making La Rosière one of the largest ski areas in the region. In addition to the new lift, the resort has also invested in upgrading its snowmaking capabilities, ensuring that skiers and snowboarders can enjoy the slopes even in periods of low snowfall.

Other recent developments include the expansion of the beginner's area and the construction of a new spa and wellness centre. These improvements make La Rosière an even more attractive destination for winter sports enthusiasts looking for a high-quality ski experience in the heart of the French Alps.

HISTORY

La Rosière is a relatively new resort, having been founded in the 1950s. However, the area has a rich history dating back centuries, with the Col du Petit Saint Bernard pass that La Rosière sits on being used since Roman times. The pass was an important trade route, connecting Italy with Gaul, and later France.

During the 19th and early 20th centuries, the pass was also used as a stage in the Tour de France cycling race. Today, La Rosière is a thriving ski resort with a modern infrastructure, but the area's history is still evident in its architecture and surrounding landscape.

THE VILLAGE TODAY

La Rosière is a cross-domain, high-altitude ski resort that offers plenty of winter activities besides skiing, such as ice skating, dog sledding, and snow kiting. The resort also has a bar/restaurant in a giant igloo accessible by ski or foot. La Rosière is a great option for families with several ski schools and safe learner areas.

It's linked to Italy via a ski lift, allowing skiing across the border to La Thuile with one ski pass. The resort offers good value for money with a sunny climate, wide open slopes, and excellent dining options. The village centre has grocery shops, delicatessens, and a local bakery.
