Courchevel

Within the Courchevel resort reside three villages, all of which are known for their diverse winter and summer activity offerings. Courchevel 1850 is the highest of the villages on the mountain. This is where you will find all the high-end boutiques, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Hermès. Courchevel Moriond (1,650m in altitude) is also set at high altitude, is the most exclusive area and generally has more premium prices.

Further down in the mountain, Courchevel Village can be found (1,550m in altitude). The village tends to be more reasonably priced and is quite popular with families. The last village on the mountain is the original Courchevel Praz (1,300m in altitude), which is arguably the most authentic in Savoyan charm.

All the resorts are equipped with banks, restaurants and modern facilities. Plenty of restaurants and hotels can be found in each of the villages. There are 15 five-star hotels in the Courchevel region, attracting a very international set of high net worth individuals. Generally, many families are seen in the lower villages, as these are more affordable and usually quieter.

All villages have ski schools, filled with many ski instructors for children as young as 18 months. In addition, there are bowling alleys, merry-go-rounds and arcades to entertain the little ones. The area is very family friendly and aims to be so. The après-ski is not on the top of the agenda, but there are great restaurants and little bars that offer a good nightlife opportunity.

Courchevel Moriond (Courchevel 1650)

Skiers in the know will aim to visit Courchevel Moriond, formerly known as Courchevel 1650. Next to its glitzy neighbour of Courchevel 1850, it offers some great skiing and a nice atmosphere in the village without the hefty Paris jet-set price. It is more than simply a satellite village to Courchevel 1850 though, providing its own character and unique charm. There are many great value-for-money restaurants with menus that are incredibly complex. The nightlife of the village is unpretentious and allows those wanting to relax and enjoy some live music to do so at ease. The village is being spruced up with some impressive Corbusier-style architecture and some exciting new spa developments. There is always something to discover in Courchevel Moriond.
