La Forêt Blanche

La Forêt Blanche ranges from 1,650m to 2,750m in altitude and covers over 185km of ski pistes. It is largely known as a family resort as it caters to all abilities, from beginners to some more adventurous off-piste skiers. In addition, the two villages offer more than simply ski activities – there is snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, horse riding, and paragliding and zip lining in the summer.

The streets of the village house multiple restaurants and some great pubs that host some live music throughout the week. The buildings in Risoul are generally favoured among tourists as they are made from natural materials such as wood and stone, creating a perfectly cosy alpine experience.

Risoul is more populous with trees and offers the steeper ski pistes, whereas Vars tends to be a bit sparser and flatter on average. Because of its landscape, Vars has become quite popular among the speed skier circle.

The experts say

Snow cannons use water that is extracted from an underground river, and therefore not ground water. La Forêt Blanche aims to have a very eco-friendly approach to its activities.

Weather

Spring / Summer

The summers are very sunny and dry. The heaviest rainfall will be seen in May. Temperatures in the high 20s can be seen through the summer.

Fall / Winter

Risoul and Vars see a lot of sunshine in the winter. It has a generally dry climate and north-facing slopes, therefore the transformation of snow into water is delayed. Given the dry climate, it is much easier to create artificial snow at temperatures close to 0°C.
