Combloux is also well-equipped with ski lifts and facilities, ensuring easy access to the ski slopes for visitors of all abilities.

HISTORY

Combloux, known for skiing, was originally a mountain farming community since 1284. By 1942, 130 farms were present, of which 26 still operate today. In the early 20th century, Combloux drew attention from city dwellers for summer getaways, followed by wealthy Brits who stayed at the Grand Hôtel du Mont-Blanc.

Combloux had its own drag lift by 1935, impressive given only six drag lifts and 11 cable cars operated in France. Development halted during World War II, but resumed in the late 1950s with new lifts added until 1989.

Recent infrastructural improvements include upgraded chair lifts and snowmaking in 2007-2008.

THE VILLAGE TODAY

Combloux is part of the Evasion Mont-Blanc ski domain which means it has 445km of groomed pistes right on the doorstep. In addition, Combloux is also linked to the newer Portes du Mont-Blanc ski area which is great for families as it has a range of beginner and intermediate slopes as well as several toboggan runs.

True to its farming roots, Combloux remains a year-round resort and there are still a number of working farms dotted around, including an educational farm which is open to tourists during the summer. Plus, there is a farmers’ market every Wednesday of the year where you can pick up delicious locally grown produce.

Though skiing may be the main draw, Combloux is a wonderful summer destination too and its ecological lake is not to be missed. With impressive mountain views, heated by the sun and filtered by 10,000 plants, it is the first ecological swimming lake in France and a huge hit with families.
