Grand Baie et le Nord

Located on the north coast of the island in the Rivière du Rempart District, Grand Baie is the island’s most developed beach destination.  Nicknamed ‘De Bogt Eyndt Zonder’ – the Bay without End, by the Dutch travellers who first discovered it in the 17th century, it’s beautiful curved bay now plays home to the island’s most comprehensive selection of restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.

It’s also here that you can find the best of Mauritius’s nascent nightlife scene. And while the main beaches of La Cuvette and Grand Baie can be over-crowded at weekend, make like the locals and take a boat out to explore the crystal turquoise waters and deserted shores of the five Robinson Crusoe islands that sit to the north of Grand Baie.
