Le Massif des Aravis

The Aravis ski area includes four resorts: La Clusaz, Grand Bornand, St Jean de Sixt and Manigod. These magical French alpine resorts have recently joined to become Lake Annecy Ski Resorts. While they are not connected physically by ski-able terrain, they are a short drive from one another and benefit from reciprocal lift passes.

A stand-out feature shared by the resorts is their proximity to Geneva (accessible in about an hour's drive) and Annecy, making them incredibly popular with local Swiss and French skiers. As a result, there is a good buzz through the region year-round, helped by a glut level of excellent restaurants, where the focus is on white-table clothes rather than self-service buffets.

Even in the summer, the ski area offers numerous sports activities. Two prestigious golf courses are located at la Clusaz and le Grand Bornand.

The experts say

If we calculate the price-per-square-metre of property for sale in relation to the area of ski-able terrain, the region comes in at one of the highest in the Alps. However, the figures tell only part of the story. Le Massif de Aravis' popularity shows skiers are prepared to pay a premium for easy access and an authentic, charming alpine atmosphere.

The property market in Le Massif des Aravis

The property market in the Massif de Aravis region is consistently strong: Its a popular destination with locals thanks to its proximity to Geneva, Lyon and Annecy, and combines pretty alpine villages, with a great restaurant scene and vibrant atmosphere.  Its one of the preferred locations for local French and Swiss to have a second home, so stock is limited and demand continous.

Thanks to a varied and interesting ski domain stretching over 200 km, the region is very popular with families, with some runs gaining global fame thanks to professional skier Candide Thorex's Go-Pro videos showing the fun to be had on his local slopes.

These factors contribute to a relatively high price per square metre in the area, which is supported by a dynamic rental market. Properties in the region tend to sell quickly due to limited stock.

How to Get There

By Train

The nearest station to the resort is at Annecy, located 32km away, and offering direct access to TGV's high-speed service.

By Air

Only 50km away and reached in approximately an hour's drive, Geneva is the closest airport. As a result, the area is popular with international skiers. 150km away and an hour and 30 minutes by car, Lyon provides a good alternative.

Spring / Summer

Temperatures average a sunny 27 degrees during the summer months.

Fall / Winter

La Clusaz enjoys high snowfall and is often one of the first resorts in the Alps to open its slopes. This is thanks to its micro-climate, helped by the Aravis Range acting as a “natural barrier” to the Alps, preventing precipitation. The means skiers can often enjoy 5 months on the slopes. In January, the temperatures range from -3.4 ⁰ to 6,2 ⁰.
